Aya Hasegawa was born and raised in Yokohama, Japan. In 2006, Aya made a transpacific move to Long Beach, California and continued to delve into her love of vintage American design. Here, Aya worked in fields relating to antique industrial furniture and workwear. Sparked by the materials around her, Aya began to make jewelry inspired by American vintage culture and her Japanese heritage.
Neji: Japanese for twist/screws
Neji Jewelry is a jewelry line of contemporary everyday wear with a vintage twist. Established in 2013, Neji is designed and hand fabricated in Los Angeles, California by Aya Hasegawa. With its namesake meaning twist or screws, Neji blends a Japanese sensibility for quality and detail with an American vintage twist. Neji draws from timeless elements of the past that spark something special in the present to create jewelry that is made for “everyday wear”.
